GDAE Transnational Law Program - Day 6

The Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) introduces Dominican students to the American style of liberal arts education and encourages dialogue between Dominican students and their Dominican-American counterparts attending these institutions. The program promotes partnership and entrepreneurship initiatives which foster innovation and stimulate Dominican economic development and international understanding.

Students participating in the University of Georgia (UGA) Transnational Law Program in Athens, Georgia (October 19-26, 2014) took turns sending a daily report of their experiences.  To show just how fun the GDAE program is, we are sharing these reports to inspire others to attend! If you are interested in applying, please read more information on our website at: www.globaldominicanacademicexchange.org

Saturday 25th

Saturday the 25th turned out to be a fantastic day, full of color and splendor. As always, we started our day with a good breakfast. By 9:30 am, we left for Atlanta, Georgia with our professor and coordinator of the Dean Rusk Center’s International Exchange Program, María Jiménez, and the wonderful InteRDom team. We had the opportunity to visit the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. Museum. He was born in Atlanta on January 15, 1929. We learned a lot about the life of this great leader who, at the age of fifteen, began to study the Bible then later earned a Theology degree in Boston. When he was 25, he embarked on his religious path as a Minister in Montgomery. Inspired by Gandhi, Dr. King soon became a proponent of peaceful resistance in the struggle for civil rights. What we experienced there will have a lifetime effect on us: one man’s struggle for equal rights is, and will be, a lasting inspiration for all of us.

Afterwards, we visited CNN, Cable News Network. This was a magic place to visit. Learning how it functions and seeing its installations was simply amazing. Imagining, back in the day, how a 24-hour cable news network revolutionized the world…it seemed totally brilliant to us. We are, and will continue to be, connected to this renowned information network.
After the CNN tour, we returned to Athens to rest up for our trip.

With love,
DR Crew
